Japan primitive rural sculpture carving Kannon 1940 Buddhist art wood work

Japanese rural wood carving primitive sculpture. Koyasu Kannon (子安観音), the "Child-Granting Kannon",  "Maria-Kannon" or "Kannon of Safe Childbearing". Carved from single block of hard Keyaki wood in the Enku-bori manner folk art, natural wood surface with dark tinted Sumi charcoal ink. Expressive and primitive like character, instinctive chisel carving. 
Good conditions, wood expansion, some wear from time and handing. Immediately usable.

Period: 1940 - 1950

Dimensions:  H 44 W 24 cm, weight 4.630 Kg + wrapping
