Description:

Dragon sculpture Japan bronze 1700 Japanese temple bell antique art.

Antique elaborate Japanese/Chinese bronze dragon sculpture, fine bronze carving with very nice patina. Lost wax bronze technique and hand detailed hammering, the 2 dragons are facing each other in a rampant position forming an arch that climaxes in to a Buddhist circle of clouds. 
Originally created to support a ceremonial temple bell (today lost) that would have been supported by the 2 key joints on the base, now supported on an octagonal wood base.
 Fine bronze carving with very nice patina. Some wear marks from long handling visible, no fractures and no missing parts. Historical Japanese art work.

Period:  early 1700  mid Edo era.

Dimensions:  H with base 21 cm, bronze H 20 W 19 cm, bronze weight 1.800 Kg + wrapping and base

Conditions:  good , some wear marks from usage and time, please see photos.
