Antique 17th Century Japanese Byobu Screen Painting – Edo Period (c. 1650–1680)


A rare and atmospheric Japanese folding screen (Byobu) panel painting, depicting a summer mountain and lake landscape enveloped in floating golden mist. Executed in fine sumi ink and gold dust on paper, this work reflects the refined Zen aesthetics and meditative spirit of early Edo Japan.

Originally mounted as a six-panel folding screen, the artwork has been carefully detached and preserved to prevent deterioration. The composition shows exceptional craftsmanship, with delicate brushwork and nuanced gradations of tone.

Signed and sealed by Hougan Eishin (法眼永真) – most likely from the school of Eishin.
