A striking antique Japanese bronze bowl dating from the Meiji  period (circa early 1880 - 1900), featuring a bold riveted metal band encircling its broad in the shape of a Taiko drum, low-slung form. This piece showcases the skilled craftsmanship of Japanese metalworkers of the era, with a rich, dark patina developed over a century of age.

The base bears the foundry mark 共筈 (Tomohazu) — a technical inscription often indicating that the vessel’s parts were cast and assembled as a matching, original set. This is typical of incense burners (kōro) or ceremonial basins used in Buddhist temples or tea settings.

Whether used as a decorative centerpiece, incense vessel, or collector’s piece, this bowl embodies both the strength and subtlety of Japanese bronze artistry.
