Antique Shishi lion Japan temple wood sculpture rural mountain XIX Century

Antique Shishi lion wood sculpture from old Buddhist temple by Miya-Daiku wood master carving. Protective seity Shishi lion / Fu dog sculpture a traditional Japanese architectural supportive ornament wood carving used to ornate and reinforce temple architecture.  
Buddhist temple architecture Miya-Daiku craft (please see last image for original, positioned between crossbeams in traditional Japanese religious architecture to help support and space out the heavy timber load). It represents supreme power, courage, ferocity, and protective energy.
Hand carving from solid Japanese cedar tree wood block. Recently (1900 - 1950) placed in to wood frame made from old wood from temple structure. Medium conditions, extensive wear from time and long exposure. Antique Japanese rural Buddhist/Shinto sculpture.

Period: 1800 - 1880 Edo-Meiji era

Dimensions: frame H 28 L 58 W 6 cm, total weight 2.270kg + wrapping

Conditions:  medium, extensive wear from the elements, usage and time, recent restoration on eyes, please see all photos.
