Japan antique Kaminari Taiko Buddhist temple drum 1890s Japanese instrument.

Antique Japanese Buddhist Kaminari Taiko drum from Japanese temple in Gifu prefercture. Made from single hand carved wood tree stump, skins are intact and produce god deep sound. Surface is lacquered with deep black lacquer and the skins are gold leafed, 3 bronze metal rings fittings. Nice patina and usage markings. The instrument is in good conditions despite long usage and time, immediately usable with Bachi hitter.

Period: 1890 - 1900 Meiji era

Dimensions: max Diam 54 cm 21 inch,  H 23 cm, 9 inch, total weight 5.870 Kg + wrapping

Conditions: good, some wear from aging and usage, skins are in good conditions, central leather patch from long usage. Please see photos.
