Japanese Buddhist divinity minimalist statue Enku carved from single wood block, venerated central Japan deity. The statue comes from an old rural temple and it would have been housed in an small wood shrine. Unusual 2 faces carved statue showing the reuse of deity statues by rural Japanese community. Interesting historical rural art with interesting parallels to the Japanese Obake supernatural world. Wear from long exposure and time, expressive and mysterious carving.
